Nancy E. Rafuse

Selected by the National Law Journal to the "40 Under 40" (May 2, 2005),  Nancy is the managing partner of Ashe, Rafuse and Hill. In 2005, she was selected by Chambers as a leading Lawyer in Georgia in her field.

Nancy has represented employers in all aspects of employment and civil rights litigation, including collective and class actions. In addition to class actions, Nancy serves as lead trial counsel for corporations in a number of alleged employment discrimination actions and frequently is retained to handle expert witness issues. Nancy has also served as lead trial counsel for hospitality clients in defense of public accommodations cases. She has successfully tried such cases to complete defense verdicts for the Firm's client.

During law school, Nancy clerked for the Hon. B. Avant Edenfield, U.S. District Court Judge, Southern District of Georgia and worked for the District Attorney in the Northeastern Judicial Circuit of Georgia.

Nancy is regularly invited to speak to management and human resources groups on employment and labor related issues, and has been a regularly invited speaker at the annual conference of the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychologists (“SIOP”). Nancy also regularly presents to industry and expert groups on the subjects of statistics and labor economics. Nancy was invited by the Georgia General Assembly Women's Caucus to speak on the issue of gender equity in the Georgia high schools and the Georgia University System. Nancy has been published in the Employee Relations Law Journal, is co-author of Chapter 5, "Scored Tests," Employment Discrimination Law, Lindemann & Grossman (3d Ed. 1996), and Chapter Co-Editor of Chapter 37 "Class Actions" for the 2002 supplement and the upcoming 4th Edition.

Nancy is an active member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia and the Atlanta Bar Association, and the labor and employment law section of each. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Urban League, the Board of Directors for Zoo Atlanta and is a member of the Atlanta United Way's Women's Leadership Council. Nancy is admitted to practice in Georgia and many federal courts throughout the United States.

Nancy received her B.B.A. degree, cum laude, from the University of Georgia in 1988 and her J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Georgia in 1991. While there, she was Notes Editor of the Georgia Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif. Nancy and her husband Mark (the President of a hotel development company in Atlanta) are the parents of two young children.
