Carmen A. Butler
Prior to attending law school, Carmen worked as a paralegal in the litigation and labor and employment departments of a Cleveland, Ohio law firm. During law school at Harvard, she was a student attorney at the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau, representing clients in the areas of employment law, family law, and social security hearings. Following law school, she was an associate in the labor and employment department of a large national firm in New York. A native of Atlanta, Carmen moved back to Atlanta and began working with Ashe, Rafuse & Hill in August 2003. Since working for ARH, she has represented clients in all aspects of employment law, including matters brought under Title VII , Section 1981 of the Civil Rights Act of 1866, the ADEA, FMLA, and various other state and federal employment law statutes. She has also represented restaurants in civil rights matters brought under Title II and Section 1981.
During law school and during her legal career, Carmen has provided pro bono representation to victims of domestic violence. She is a member of Hands on Atlanta and volunteers for various projects through HOA, including volunteering at Westminster Commons nursing home.
Carmen loves all sports, and is in her high school athletic hall of fame for soccer and volleyball. She is still involved in soccer and has played in adult soccer leagues and has coached youth soccer. She is a huge Duke University sports fan (not just a fan of the men’s basketball team, but everything from Duke men’s soccer to Duke women’s lacrosse).
Carmen and her husband Jason (a high school teacher in the DeKalb County School System) are the parents of two young sons.
