Joe Sharp

Joe Sharp concentrates his practice on commercial litigation. Joe has significant experience litigating cases in a variety of areas including real estate, intellectual property, financial services, and entertainment. Joe has been involved in numerous complex matters, including securities class actions, consumer class actions and actions consolidated before the Judicial Panel on Multi-District Litigation.

Joe has represented clients in numerous federal and state courts, including courts located in Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Delaware. He has represented financial institutions, telecommunications companies, record companies, real estate developers and national and international manufacturers.

Joe’s successes include:

  • Obtaining a $1.8 million judgment for a company against former officer based on various business tort claims.
  • Defeating future lost profits claim valued in excess of $30 million in dispute between a pharmaceutical company and a contract manufacturer.
  • Obtaining summary judgment on behalf of computer software manufacturer in case involving multi-million dollar fraud claim related to sale of facility.
  • Successfully defending technology company in case brought by former high level executive who claimed he was entitled to thousands of shares of stock based on purported stock option agreement.
  • Obtaining seven-figure jury verdict in a defamation case.
  • Successfully defending record company in copyright infringement action based on an implied nonexclusive license theory. Obtained summary judgment in federal trial court and affirmance by Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
  • Obtaining an injunction, asset freeze and two judgments exceeding seven figures in trademark infringement action which involved shutting down the manufacture and distribution of counterfeit products.
  • Joe received his B.B.A. degree in Accounting from the University of Georgia in 1989. Joe received his J.D. degree, cum laude, in 1993 from the University of Georgia School of Law, where he served as Managing Editor of the Georgia Law Review. During law school, Joe was also a Marion Smith scholar.

    Joe is an active member of the State Bar of Georgia, Defense Research Institute, Atlanta Bar Association, Georgia Defense Lawyers Association, and the American Bar Association. For his pro bono contribution, Joe has previously been recognized as one of the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation’s Top 50.

    In 2006, Joe was named a “Georgia Super Lawyers Rising Star” by Atlanta Magazine. Joe was also designated by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 as a top-ranked attorney in Litigation: General Commercial — Georgia.

    Joe and his wife Stephanie, a graduate of the University of Georgia, are the proud parents of two children.
